Animal Cruelty - Sanderson WV

I worked at South Central Regional Jail for a year. I'm thankful that I don't work there now. The man accused of this past week's evil, demonish, treatment of a poor dog is currently housed at South Central after his arrest today. Any human who could do the things this man did to this dog, would in all probabilty do the same to a human if the idea crossed his mind. I'm not alone in this feeling. A local phychiatrist stated as much in a news segment on TV the other night. Local people were appalled and a reward for the arrest of this individual quickly climbed to over ten thousand dollars! It takes true evil in a person's mind to prompt them to such depraved behavior. I've actually been nervous knowing someone like this was loose in the area. Now he is behind bars, and like the animal he is, I hope he stays locked there for the rest of his life. It's a known fact that almost every serial killer started their "careers" with the torture of animals. So, do we turn this person loose to move on to unleashing his evil on humans? I think not.

Holy Day or Holiday?

In just three days, Christmas will finally be here. After all the presents have been unwrapped and we've eaten our fill of traditional foods, what will we remember about this season? Will it be the stress of too much shopping? The family get-togethers we would have liked to miss? Will it be the wails of children, tired from all the "being good for Santa"? Or will we keep our focus on the true meaning behind the celebration? God gave mankind a gift two thousand years ago, and he invites each of us to accept that gift each and every day....not just at Christmas. For those of us who know the gift personally...those who have a personal relationship with Jesus, Christmas is a joyous time of remembering that the babe in the Nativity Scene represents our Saviour. God as man. Come to make possible the forgiveness of our sinful selves, and to give us the gift of eternal life. It is in knowing these facts that we find peace and joy, especially at Christmas.

Christmas in the Air

How many of you have been listening to Christmas music while browsing the Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations in your local stores? Probably everyone!! When I was a kid, the Christmas season started the day after Thanksgiving. A month long season was enough for most people. Thanks to stores who have bathing suits in January and winter coats in July, we have to have the Christmas buying season start as early in the fall as the merchants can get away with. And it seems that they are getting away with starting earlier and earlier. This is the first year I can recall actually hearing Christmas music prior to Halloween. Oh, of course, they've started to set up artificial trees and fill the toy aisles, but they haven't put on the accompanying music this early. At least not in any stores that I frequent. Well, next year, get ready to hum along to "Hark the Herold Angels Sing" long about Labor Day.

This Is A First

This is where I'm planning to express all thats going on in my mind. Now THATS a scary thought! My former Boss said I was "opinionated". I always said he just didn't like for anyone to disagree with him. Truth is...I DO have lots of opinions, and now I have this blog so I can share them with you. Come visit any time. Subjects will change with my mood, the morning paper, or the evening news.
